Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Zion celebrated the commissioning of 5 caring members of our congregation who have completed training and are ready to use their spiritual gifts and talents as Stephen Leaders. Mrs. Iris Stanley, Mrs. Linda Baptiste, Mother Peggy Shipman, Mrs. Vanessa Herbert, and Rev. Dr. Willie Caldwell are charged up and eager to lead our Stephen Ministry

Simply put, Zion’s commitment to Christ, as a body of believers, will use Stephen Ministry to make an impact in our congregation, and community by putting into action our love for God and God’s two greatest commandments — ‘And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39

• To connect with a Stephen Minister, call the Stephen Ministry Hotline at 770-691-8187. Because our referral process is highly confidential, potential care receivers and referrals will call the dedicated, private line that is monitored regularly. The Referral Coordinator will respond to begin the intake process.
Care Receivers will be prayerfully matched with a Stephen Minister who will listen, care, encourage, provide emotional and spiritual support, establish a caring relationship, and refer the care receiver for other professional services as needed. The Care Receiver’s situation and information will be handled in a most sensitive and confidential manner.

How can I get involved with Zion’s Stephen Ministry?
• There is an opportunity for every member of Zion to be involved with our Stephen Ministry. The amount of time you commit can be as small as praying daily for Zion’s Stephen Ministry and for the care receivers who engage our services and support. The amount of time and your level of commitment can only be determined by you with God’s guidance. This is a serious ministry providing life-changing support to hurting people and building up the body of Christ, so it requires your serious God-inspired guidance as you decide on how to be involved. There are many roles available to assist administratively as well. Or course more time is required to become a trained Stephen Minister working with a care receiver.
